If you’re looking for a smart security camera for your home, there are dozens, if not hundreds to choose from.
While Nest makes the best premium smart camera and EVIZ makes the cheapest, our pick for the best all-around indoor security camera goes to Amazon’s Cloud Cam.

Now, before we go ahead with a review, it’s important to note the “indoor” part. Many smart security cameras are designed for either indoor or outdoor. Some do cater to both, but we’re focusing on indoor cameras for this pick.
Amazon has slowly expanded its line of smart security products. When it comes to smart cameras, Amazon has gained a strong foothold in the market, thanks to acquisitions of both Ring and Blink, but the company has also shown some initiative by launching its own Cloud Cam. Let’s take a look.
What do we like about Amazon Cloud Cams?
Nice specs – while not as many cool features as a Nest Cam, the Cloud Cam has everything you’ll need, including 1080p HD, night vision, movement alerts, two-way audio, and compatibility with Amazon Alexa.
It plugs in – having a battery powered security camera is great for outdoor locations, but for indoor use, plugging it in makes more sense. No need to recharge a battery and it loads up the live video much faster than battery-powered smart cameras.
Free cloud storage – without charge, you’ll get 24 hours of cloud video storage which is generally enough because, if it detects someone in your home, you’re going to act within hours not days.
Mobile & Web apps – some smart security cameras only work through a phone or tablet app. The Amazon Cloud Cam works with both iOS and Android devices and has a website you can access through your computer’s browser.
Geofencing – you can set up geofencing so that the camera only turns on when you–and your phone–leave the home. Even better, you can activate its Home/Away feature on more than one phone so, if you leave your home but your spouse remains, it won’t send you false alarms about movement.
What don’t we like about Amazon Cloud Cams?
Limited compatibility – while it works great with mobile devices, when it comes to hubs and smart speakers it only works with Amazon Alexa. Amazon has shown no signs of breaking down the walled garden it has built around its smart devices.

Upgrades needed to unlock features – If you want longer cloud storage, motion zones, and smart motion detection that actually looks for people, not pets, then you’ll need a paid plan. Amazon Cloud Cam subscriptions start at $6.99 a month and top out at an expensive $19.99 a month!
What else is important to know about Amazon Cloud Cams?
Status light – if you read the reviews of the Amazon Cloud Cam, you will see a common complaint, albeit a trivial one. When your Cloud Cam is active, so is a little green light on the front of the camera. Annoying if using as a baby monitor, and a tip-off if using to monitor for burglars. Either you’ll wait for a software update or use a piece of black electrical tape to mask it.
Future updates unknown – while the Amazon Cloud Cam shows a lot of investment and promises for the future, we wonder how it will be integrated into Ring and Blink cameras. Hopefully, all three brands will be placed under the same umbrella cloud subscription plan, so you don’t have to pay separately for each.
